The Life of Ministry 99
give greater opportunities, making relationships and affirmation guide the path of
his or her young ones.
Such efforts require specific planning. Begin with those resources that were
meaningful to you or are specifically designed for your child’s stage of life. Learn
who and what your child is. Understand each child’s ways of learning or find
effective help that will give the best opportunity for growth and success. The
parent who is thinking this way is also enhancing the parent-child relationship,
that is, as long as expectations are reasonable and the child or children are given
room to explore other interests.
Summary
The minister’s child faces a very challenging life. While that life is filled with
numerous possibilities that other children may never have, it is also wrought with
difficulties that are unique to life in the minister’s home.
A minister must understand the difficulties the children will face and understand
that the impact of these challenges will vary for each child. To help each one, the
minister must maintain realistic expectations and work diligently to help them feel
support, love, and understanding when those challenges become overwhelming.
Through support and understanding, children in the ministry family become
equipped for the high expectations and life in the spotlight. If the minister can
successfully navigate his or her children through these waters, it will open the
way for even greater success.
