Our Educational Philosophy

(a) Assembly Bible College (ABC) values, and believes, an underlying assumptions (why we do what we do) which serve to establish parameters that define its character and nature. These are defined as follows, ABC is a post-secondary institution operated by the Assemblies of God in Botswana:

    • (i) To enable and inspire students to achieve Christian academic excellence that transforms them into positive contributors in the society;

    • (ii) To equip servant leaders’ called of God through quality transformative needs oriented programme(s) to fulfil the Great Commission in the power of the Holy Spirit.”

  • (b) The key features of this philosophy are the following:
    (i) “…post-secondary institution…” (Life-long learning, self-participatory learning, learner centred, needs relevant).

      • The College offers education following graduation from a high school.

      • The principal aim of the programme(s) is to provide a professional qualification for those working in the Christian education sector and any sector where there is the facilitation of counselling at a professional level.

      • The programme(s) aims to develop the knowledge and understanding, practical skills and professional attributes that are necessary for a high level of performance in the areas of learning, teaching, pastoring, and of leadership and management.

      • On successful completion of the programme(s), the individual will obtain a professionally recognized qualification that will attest to the achievement of stated knowledge and competencies.

        • The College provides a comprehensive and quality transformative education programme which provides an opportunity to those who graduate to have acquired the full range of competencies and understandings to go on to realise their future potentials.

        • The programmes are designed in such a way that they offer comprehensive lifelong learning which provides an opportunity to the post-secondary leavers, and 25 years and older, who have never had the opportunity to reach form five or equivalent and tertiary levels of education, to further maximise their learning potential for their benefit and the country.

(ii) “…operated by the Assemblies of God in Botswana…” (Spiritual and religious oriented).

    • When this College is owned by the Assemblies of God (AOG), its name should not anyhow to mislead. The College does not teach AOG doctrine but teaches Bible doctrine.

    • The appearance of AOG’s name on the missions statement communicates that the College is a spiritual and religious oriented institution.

  • (iii) “…equip servant leaders…” (humble, informed, relevant, zealous, cooperative, voluntary motivated, transformative)

      • It is the College’s objective to have learners develop and grow to become conscious of their responsibilities as facilitators of transformed lives and be competent in the enterprise of transforming people.

      • The programme(s) are strategically developed to offer servant leaders an ongoing enrichment to enhance their own abilities at the same time equipping them for transforming lives.

        • The College programme(s) take the form of an applied (or practice/policy-oriented) research project to find out ways to help learners accomplish their task of transformation.

        • Train leaders in Christian and any counselling sectors to learn how to help people begin the transformation from passive to active purposeful individuals, problem solvers, and critical thinkers.

(iv) “…quality transformative… programme(s)….” (practical, and intentional)

    • It is the College’s assumptions that learners programme(s) should make learners be conscious of their responsibilities as facilitators of transformed lives, and be competent in the enterprise of transforming people.

    • The programme(s) are strategically developed to offer servants leaders an ongoing enrichment to enhance their own abilities, and also equipping them for transforming lives.

  • (v) “…needs oriented programme…” (Residential and church-based training, relevant).

      • The programme(s) meet the acceptable standards of education; scholarship and infrastructure are being met, maintained and enhanced.

      • ABC guarantee with confidence and certainty, that the standards of its educational provision are being maintained and enhanced.

      • The programme is designed to add value to higher education by encouraging accepted educational standards.

      • The education system is internationally recognized and well-established, and vital to enhance economic growth in developing countries like Botswana.

      • The programme fuels the engine of economic and social development at the national, regional and international levels.

        • The programme(s) enhances employment opportunities, improves the education and training of future employees, harnesses future leaders, facilitates an enabling learning environment, and enriches the academic and intellectual landscape.

        • The college’s education system is essential to the successful development and functioning of an open and democratic civil society like Botswana.

        • The college’s educational programme(s) provides the social norms of communication and interaction such as philosophical thinking and reasoning to promote the sovereignty of its individuals, and to eliminate all kinds of social-class ethnic conflicts and gender or religious biases.

        • The paramount mandate of ABC is leaning on Bible scripture text known as the Great Commission of the Lord Jesus Christ to His disciples as appears in Mark 16:14-18; Matt 28:16-20; Luke 24:44-49; and Acts 1:6-8.
