The Kingdom of God
you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when
all the time there is a plank in your own eye?” (v. 4). Even Jesus himself
did not come to judge people but to save them. He declared, “For God
did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save
the world through him” (John 3:17).
Do Not Throw Your Life Away (Matthew 7:6–7)
Citizens of Christ’s eternal kingdom are to live their lives with sacred
purpose. Jesus said, “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your
pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and
then turn and tear you to pieces” (v. 6). Our most sacred possession is
our lives. This includes our time and energy. We are not to squander our
lives seeking temporal blessing. This is like throwing pearls to pigs. Rather,
we are to invest our lives in God’s kingdom as did Jesus. He testified, “I
seek not to please myself but him who sent me” (John 5:30).

will find; knock and the door will be

gifts to their children and protecting
them from harm. Then, “how much
more will your Father in heaven give
good gifts to those who ask him!” (v. 11). One of the greatest gifts that
God gives His children is the Holy Spirit (Luke 11:13).
Treat Others with Dignity and Respect (Matthew 7:12)
Jesus gives us an essential guideline for effective Kingdom living. “So
in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you” (v. 12).
This commandment of Jesus is known as the Golden Rule. It can serve as
the definitive measuring stick for how we should treat others. By applying
this rule to our relationships with others, we can be assured that we are
treating them as Jesus our King would treat them. If we will faithfully
