Present

Kingdom

he kingdom of God is a kingdom that has come and is coming. It
has both a present and a future aspect. The present reality of the
TKingdom is wrapped up in these three truths:

• The Kingdom came in the person of Jesus Christ.
• The Kingdom comes in the power of the Holy Spirit.
• The Kingdom is coming today.

The Kingdom Came in the Person of Jesus Christ

Jesus’ Announcement about the Kingdom
John the Baptist prepared the way for the coming of Jesus. He said,
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near” (Matthew 3:2).

He meant that Jesus would soon begin His kingdom ministry. When
Jesus began His ministry, He repeated the announcement of John.
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near” (Matthew 4:17). The word
translated as “near” can also be translated “at hand.” Jesus was saying
that God’s kingdom was near enough to reach out and touch. By touching
Jesus, one could touch the kingdom of God! On another occasion,
