The Holy Spirit
and the
Kingdom
hroughout the Bible, the kingdom of God is described as a kingdom
of power. David prayed, “Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the
Tpower.… Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom” (1 Chronicles 29:11–12;
compare Psalm 145:11). Paul wrote, “For the kingdom of God is not
a matter of talk but of power” (1 Corinthians 4:20). Jesus preached
the kingdom of God; He also demonstrated the Kingdom’s power. He
revealed that the source of His kingdom power was the Holy Spirit
(Matthew 12:28; Luke 4:18–19). In this chapter, we will examine three
significant issues concerning the relationship between the Holy Spirit
and the kingdom of God.
• The Holy Spirit in the Kingdom ministry of Jesus.
• The kingdom of God and Pentecost.
• The Holy Spirit and the Kingdom ministry of the church.
