A History of the Church in Africa

The Pentecostal revival was sent from heaven during the twentieth
century to prepare for the coming of the King, our Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ. I have repeatedly emphasized the need for the river of
God to flow to the ends of the earth. From Azusa, the message went
to the world. The messengers of the cross were filled with a passion
for lost humanity, and every barrier was removed so that people “from
every tribe and language and people and nation” (Revelation 5:9) would
receive the message. No sacrifice would be too great.

William Menzies, my friend, mentor, and missionary colleague, made
                           this insightful statement:

Surely the Spirit of God was with these people. One cannot
fully explain the phenomenon of the survival of the Pentecostal
revival on any other ground than this. Charismatic revivals had
punctuated the history of the Church, but never until this revival
had such a spiritual eruption survived. (78–79)
